Students Lead on Solutions at Belfast Met with Support from the Lottery Community Fund

President of the Student’s Union, Isaac Kerr-McKenna

The Students’ Union at Belfast Met (@BelfastMetSU) is leading on a project aimed at addressing some of the most critical issues facing many students at the College. Students are forming a volunteering service, where with support from the National Lottery Community Fund and additional costs covered by the Belfast Met Charitable Trust, they will recruit, train and reward volunteers to run a number of initiatives to address financial hardship, such as a Breakfast Club and food parcels.

President of the Student’s Union, Isaac Kerr-McKenna said,

“We are aware of serious issues facing many students that are impacting on their ability to learn and enjoy their time at the College. Unfortunately, for many, serious financial hardship means they can’t afford basics such as transport and food. This support from the Community Fund will help us to recruit, train and reward students who volunteer to implement and staff projects such as a Breakfast Club and making up and distributing food parcels.

“We cannot overstate the value of this project, which will make a real and tangible difference to students. A huge thanks to the Lottery Community Fund for helping make this happen. We are excited to have the opportunity to make positive change.”

The project will commence in early January and run through to the end of June 2021.
