A series of fully-funded online Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses, fully-funded by the Department for Education (@educationgovuk), is now available to all apprenticeship providers and their workforce.

The Apprenticeship Workforce Development (AWD) offer, from the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), provides trainers and leaders with the teaching skills, subject knowledge and confidence needed to deliver successful apprenticeships for the benefit of learners.

Eight AWD CPD courses will be available through the ETF’s Professional Development Platform (PDP), with the first four available now:

  • Assessor to Teacher: Understanding How We Learn
  • Assessor to Teacher: Deciding How to Teach
  • Effective Technical Teaching: Enhancing Pedagogy and Professional Practice
  • Apprenticeship Leadership: Developing Your Team

In February, four more courses will be launched on the PDP:

  • Effective Technical Teaching: Effective End Point Assessment
  • Technical Curriculum Design: Effective Curriculum Design in Practice
  • Technical Curriculum Design: Principles and Models of Curriculum Design
  • Apprenticeship Leadership: Effective Use of Resources

The AWD online CPD, funded by the Department for Education, is available free of charge and allows trainers and leaders to engage with the training when it is suitable for them.

Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills Gillian Keegan said:

“As set out in our Skills for Jobs White Paper, this comprehensive package of professional development will support training providers to deliver higher quality teaching, curriculum design, preparation for end point assessment and overall apprenticeship management.

“This training offers an authoritative foundation in apprenticeship delivery as we ask for even better quality from our training providers. It will also give even more confidence to employers as they invest in the apprenticeship levy and help to ensure that every apprentice benefits from high-quality management and teaching.”

David Russell, Chief Executive of the Education and Training Foundation, said:

“Apprentices will play a vital role in helping our nation and economy recover from some of the biggest global disruptions in recent history that we are currently facing. The ETF is proud to launch our Apprenticeship Workforce Development offer to help more apprentices reach their potential by improving their training experience.

“Our offer, funded by the Government, will upskill and train those who deliver apprenticeships, helping them to excel. We encourage anyone involved in apprenticeships to take advantage of this offer for the benefit of their learners, organisations and wider society.”
