From education to employment

National Apprenticeship Week: Building the Future for UK Businesses

This week marks the 14th #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, with 2021’s theme being #BuildTheFuture. The event aims to showcase the impact that apprenticeships can have on communities, businesses, and economies, all of which will benefit as a result of the resurgence in popularity that Apprenticeships are experiencing.

NAW 2021 was always going to be very different. The pandemic and the UKs current restrictions have put live fairs and events on hold for the time being, but online and across social media the show must go on. If anything, Covid-19 has increased the importance of NAW and the theme for this year reflects that. Apprenticeships are a real way for businesses to train, retain and develop their workforces to build for a stronger future.

SCL Professional is proud to support NAW 2021 and across the week will be featuring stories from a range of employers, apprentices and SCL team members about their experiences delivering and learning with SCL Professional, as well as their thoughts on the importance of apprenticeships in building for the future.

Mandie Willis, SCL Professional Head of Commercial said “I have worked in the apprenticeship sector for over 20 years and I have always believed in the real value and impact that an apprenticeship can have on the individual and on the business. Organisations need to start planning now how they can utilise apprenticeships to develop their existing workforce to ‘future state’ their business and to provide opportunities into work for the younger generation.”

The key message that SCL has for businesses is that, in a time of great concern and uncertainty, apprenticeships are a real, tangible way to build back better. Upskilling your existing staff with apprenticeships helps boost employee performance and retention, and 86% of apprentice employers state that it has helped them to develop skills relevant to their organisation.

What sets SCL Professional apart from other training providers is the people powered culture, driven by its values, mentality and focus on wellbeing. When your organisation partners with SCL, our people become your people. We live and breathe your business ethos, we embed into your culture and we unlock the potential within your teams to create a pathway to a brighter future.

If your organisation’s pay bill is more than £3 million per year, then you are already paying towards apprenticeships through the Apprenticeship Levy. Why not make the most of it this year? If one thing is for sure at the moment, it’s that to make it successfully through 2021 we are going to need our teams performing to their potential.
