How former students are remodelling the gaming market

Bristol-based Kaedim is using its new technology to help create 3D digital assets, millions of which are used to build the physical world of games, films and other media.

The new approach could make it up to 100 times faster to create the models, a saving with the potential to significantly reduce costs.

CEO Konstantina Psoma, 22, and CTO Roman Bromidge, 23, began developing their ideas during their final year at the University of Bristol, and founded Kaedim in February 2020.

Last summer they were awarded the top prize in the University’s New Enterprise Competition, which included £10,000 to begin developing the business at the University’s start-up incubator, SETSquared Bristol. Kaedim now has a team of five.

Konstantina said: “We just made a huge step forward with closing this very first funding round. It enabled us to grow our team and we are now ready to start testing and iterating our product with our pilot customers.

“The headstart that Kaedim got from the University of Bristol Basecamp team and the Centre for Innovation was instrumental in fuelling our current success.”

Customers signed up to pilot the product include Rebellion, makers of Sniper Elite, Aardman Animations, creators of Wallace and Gromit, double BAFTA winning Complete Control, Oakfield DC, and Super DNA 3D Lab.

It has also been announced that Chris Kingsley OBE, co-founder and CTO of Rebellion, will join Kaedim’s board of directors.

Both Konstantina and Roman graduated from the University of Bristol’s Computer Science and Innovation Masters programme.

Rob Taffinder, Assistant Director of the University’s Career Service, which awarded them the £10,000 prize money, said:

“Supporting start-ups like Kaedim is a hugely important part of the University’s mission.

“I’m genuinely delighted for the founders as we know how hard they have worked to secure this funding.

“Kaedim are a small but talented team and we’re really excited to see what they do next.”
