Aspire Academy students engage with Cambridge HE+ scheme online

Year 12 Aspire Academy students at Brockenhurst College (@brockcollege) have started work on the University of Cambridge’s HE+ scheme despite the current lockdown.

The 18 STEM students and 14 Humanities students now log in for regular lectures, workshops and events after the programme was moved online to beat COVID-19 restrictions.

HE+ challenges ambitious students to think beyond their current studies through what Cambridge calls ‘supercurricular’ initiatives.

The programme features a range of subject specific resources written by Cambridge students and academics.

Interactive elements include challenging activities and reflective questions.

Meanwhile, students can benefit from an extensive library of video resources as well.

The idea is to prime learners for life at a top university and to inform them about Higher Education subjects and career choices.

Normally Cambridge students and academics would visit Brock in person to run workshops, seminars and extension classes.

Brock Assistant Principal, Ann Johnson, who leads the Aspire Academy, said:

“We are immensely grateful to the University of Cambridge for continuing to run this important programme throughout the current period of disruption.

“This is a pivotal moment for learners who are poised to make big decisions about their futures. HE+ gives them a much greater awareness of subject choices and what it takes to do well at a leading university like Cambridge.”
