Today the Collab Group releases a new publication: “Colleges and Employability: How colleges are helping people back into work.” The document highlights a series of case studies that demonstrate how colleges are supporting both individuals and employers during this extraordinary time.

The examples highlighted in this document demonstrate the incredible difference that colleges make within their local communities. They showcase colleges developing valuable partnerships with employers, providing customised support to individuals and supporting career changes through retraining. This pandemic has highlighted the importance of key workers, and colleges are playing a pivotal role in supporting key worker industries to access the talent they need.

The range of case studies featured is broad, and examples demonstrate how:

  • Belfast Met is helping to close skills gaps in the construction industry.
  • Bradford College is training the next generation of teachers.
  • Manchester college is working with the NHS to improve employment outcomes for residents.
  • NCG is partnering with leading tech employers to create a pathway into the tech industry.
  • Sheffield college is delivering opportunities through the Kickstart programme.

These examples, and many more, are featured in this document.

We are also re-releasing an updated version of the “Employer Engagement Prospectus.” This prospectus showcases the depth and breadth of relationships colleges have with employers of all shapes and sizes. Taken collectively, these case studies showcase the indispensable role of colleges in helping to facilitate economic recovery efforts by supporting employers to access new talent and individuals to access new employment opportunities.

Collab Group CEO Ian Pretty said: “We are delighted today to be releasing this document highlighting how colleges are supporting their local labour markets and extending opportunity across the UK. These examples demonstrate how colleges will help to facilitate a broad and inclusive economic recovery.”
