Staff and students at Loughborough College (@Lborocollege) are preparing for a 24-hour virtual sportathon to raise money for Comic Relief later this month.

The entire College is rallying to take part in a range of sports and activities from their own homes with the hope of raising thousands of pounds for charity on Friday, 19th March.

Participants will be able to sign up to a range of virtual sessions throughout the day including boxing, Irish dancing, soccercise, HIIT, walking, dog walking, gymnastics, stair-walking, silent discos, computer game tournaments and a 24-hour bike ride relay, streamed live by the College to students and staff.

Danny Lee, who is co-ordinating the 24-hour Loughborough College Sportathon, said:

ā€œWeā€™ve supported Sport Relief and Comic Relief every year for the past five years and raised more than Ā£10,000.

ā€œWe didnā€™t want to miss out this year because of Covid, so weā€™ve adapted our activities to be home-based and virtual. Weā€™ve had to think a bit differently, but itā€™s also enabled us to introduce the gaming element into the event to try and engage even more people and raise more money.

ā€œI hope we can get as many participants as possible and really smash our previous fundraising efforts and have some fun, especially after a year of so many challenges for so many people.ā€

Funds raised by Comic Relief are directed to a range of initiatives including helping provide safety to families who need support, tackling mental health stigma, taking action against domestic abuse and helping to give children a brighter future.
