HSDC progresses to final stage in Institute of Technology funding competition

HSDC has been selected to progress to the final stage for government funding in a bid to create an Institute of Technology as part of a collaboration led by Solent University with the University of Portsmouth and Fareham, IOW, Brockenhurst and Eastleigh colleges.

These newly formed Institutes of Technology are intended to deliver higher technical training in science, technology, engineering and maths subjects.  An IoT’s focus is to strengthen and grow provision to fill gaps in the market and are collaborations between industry, HE and FE.

The Solent Institute of Technology will specialise in maritime, engineering and digital. The bid, one of 13 invited to progress to stage 2, will “test the viability, feasibility and deliverability of proposals in more detail”. Eight winners will be selected to receive the £120 million in Government funding available.

“HSDC is excited to be part of this collaboration of employers, HE and FE and that it has been selected to move forward to the final stage. Setting up an Institute of Technology in the Solent region will support in the much-needed delivery of the higher-level technical skills that regional employers need.”
