Barnsley College offers teacher training courses for all

SOUTH WEST IS TOP REGION FOR INNOVATION

Barnsley College (@barnsleycollege) is offering two tailor-made teacher training courses for those who wish to launch their career in education or further progress in their current teaching role from September 2021.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is perfect for those who would like to gain insight into the teaching industry. Alternatively, the Level 5 Diploma is ideal for those who already teach but would like to prepare to teach in a wider range of contexts.

The 10-week Level 3 Award in Education and Training is aimed at those aged 19 or over. It introduces the key principals of teaching to students, details effective approaches for planning and delivering inclusive teaching sessions as well as outlining appropriate methods of assessing and providing constructive feedback. This course is available to study part-time around existing employment or family commitments, and upon successful completion, students will gain the Level 3 Award in Education and Training accredited by Training Qualifications UK.

Dale Karim, Teaching and Learning Coach at Barnsley College, delivers the Level 3 Award in Education and Training programme. He said: “Barnsley College believes that every adult has the right to life-long education and training, ensuring they have the skills to succeed in the new and future economy. The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is designed to provide our students with opportunities to develop the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours that are needed for teaching, training and education.”

The Level 5 Education and Training Diploma course prepares teachers, trainers and tutors to teach in varied contexts and requires observation and assessment of practice. This qualification is most suited to those currently working in Further Education, adult or community learning or work-based training. There are a wide range of skills that will be developed and created throughout this course including learning to plan and develop schemes of work and behaviour management strategies. This course is available to study either full-time over 12 months, or part-time around existing commitments for two years. Upon successful completion, students will gain a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.

Lauren Thrumble, former Level 5 Education and Training Diploma student and current Graphic Design Tutor at Barnsley College, added: “I really liked the relaxed atmosphere at Barnsley College as this gave me the freedom to study in my own time when appropriate. We were only a small group and were able to develop a good rapport with one another and our tutor. The Higher Education library was an excellent resource for helping me to complete my studies. I would definitely recommend Barnsley College to others, it’s a friendly and inviting place to work and study with excellent values.”
