@CVLibrary research: Hospitality and tourism sectors witness well-needed boost in applications during May 2021

The latest job market data from the job board CV-Library, reveals that the number of job postings has continued to climb throughout May, increasing by +5.2%, month-on-month.

Interestingly, while the findings show that the overall number of applications dropped by -5.9% month-on-month, the following industries actually witnessed an increase in the number of applications during May:

  1. Hospitality (up 33.8%)
  2. Leisure and Tourism (up 16.7%)
  3. Customer Services (up 11.7%)
  4. Catering (up 7.3%)
  5. Media (up 6.6%)

Whatā€™s more, applications in the administration, legal and retail sectors remained stable, with applications increasing by +3.6%, +1.3% and +0.5%, respectively.

Lee Biggins, CEO and founder of CV-Library comments:

ā€œThe shortage of staff in the hospitality, catering and tourism industries has been well documented in recent weeks, and thereā€™s no doubt that job seekers have shown more caution as the country re-opens after the national lockdown. Thatā€™s why these results should come as a huge relief to UK employers. After all, it suggests this period of caution is coming to an end.ā€

ā€œHowever, with COVID-19 cases on the rise and some experts warning of a third wave, businesses should expect this application growth to remain slow until stage four of the roadmap out of lockdown is met on 21st June. In the meantime, employers should continue with their hiring efforts and have faith that the UK job market will remain resilient and candidates will continue their job search in due course.ā€
