Professor Chris Fogwill to join Cranfield as Pro-Vice-Chancellor

Professor Chris Fogwill will be joining Cranfield University (@CranfieldUni) as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of School of Water, Energy and Environment. He will take up his post on 1 October 2021.

Professor Fogwill currently works at Keele University where he is Head of the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment and Professor of Glaciology and Palaeoclimatology. He is Director of the University’s Institute for Sustainable Futures – a multidisciplinary research institute bringing together over 130 researchers with commercial partners to make a global impact on energy use, decarbonisation and sustainability through ‘at scale’ demonstrator facilities and energy system design programmes.

Professor Fogwill has a background in the fields of geochemistry, glaciology, climate science and Earth Systems modelling. He is also an Adjunct Professor at UNSW Australia; Associate Editor for Antarctic Science and the Nature family journal, Scientific Reports; a member of the Earth’s Past Future Research Network and Intrepid Science; and leads the PRECISE Network, a consortium of leading Asia-Pacific researchers focused on the projection of future sea-level rise.

Professor Sir Peter Gregson, Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor of Cranfield University, said:

Professor Fogwill will replace Professor Simon Pollard OBE FREng who will be taking up the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International and Recruitment) on a full-time basis.

“Simon has been an outstanding Head of School, driving excellence in our research and teaching which has been recognised by two Queen’s Anniversary Prizes.

“As well as his leadership of the School, Simon has also been responsible for further developing Cranfield’s global reach with international partnerships with other universities and organisations. Cranfield is a global University and I’m delighted that Simon will be able to devote all his energies into furthering our international partnerships.”
