Barnsley College’s Business, Warehousing and Logistics department (@barnsleycollege) have levelled up their apprenticeships offer by providing a new degree-level course in Chartered Management.

The Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA), which is delivered by Barnsley College and validated by the University of Hull, incorporates both vocational elements and academic study.

Delivered over the course of two years, it will allow students to develop all aspects of their management and leadership skills, knowledge, self-awareness and behaviours through a series of taught modules and work-based learning. As an apprenticeship, it is ideal for those who wish to earn a degree without student debt as the employer covers tuition fees.

The programme is aimed at those aged 19 and over who are already employed and wish to advance in their career. It is part of the College’s ongoing dedication to the support of regional and national economic growth, industrial change and lifelong learning.

Andrea Clarke, Director of Quality for HE at Barnsley College, said:

“We’re really pleased to be able to offer this Degree Apprenticeship. Barnsley College already has a fantastic reputation for preparing younger students for the business world and upskilling those already in it.

“By offering this higher-level qualification, we can go one step further and help business people grow and flourish, both in Barnsley and beyond.”

Premdor, a leading manufacturer of timber doors based in Barnsley, has worked with Barnsley College for several years on initiatives like the Premdor Academy. Gavin Day, Organisational Development Manager at Premdor, believes that this new Degree Apprenticeship will offer a skills boost to businesses within the area.

He said:

“Professionally developing our people is crucial for the future growth and success of our business.

“With employees currently studying various qualifications with Barnsley College from levels 2 to 5, the degree-level Chartered Management qualification will be a great opportunity for employees to continue their learning and gain further skills, valuable knowledge and practical experience.”
