University achieves success in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022

The University of Plymouth’s (@PlymUni) expanding portfolio of world-leading research has been recognised in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022.

The University has been listed within the top 50 UK universities (and the top 500 internationally) in the rankings, which are based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators.

This year’s ranking analysed more than 14.4 million research publications and the University is now among the top 300 globally in the Citations category, which measures research influence and looks at universities’ role in spreading new knowledge and ideas.

It also features in the top 300 of the International Outlook category, which measures the ability of a university to attract undergraduates, postgraduates and academics from all over the world. That category also assesses the proportion of a university’s total relevant publications that have at least one international co-author.

The news follows a number of other national and international league table successes for the University during 2021.

In April, it was named as one of the top 25 institutions globally – and 1st for marine – in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021. They are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The University also achieved its highest ever position in the QS World University Rankings 2022, published in June, featuring within the top 50% of universities recognised on the list for the first time.

It scored especially highly in terms of the impact of its research and its proportion of international students, featuring inside the top 400 universities on both counts.

Professor Jerry Roberts, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) at the University, said:

“There are many global challenges that can only be addressed through transformative world-leading research and international collaborations. Our academics have always excelled in both fields, across subjects as varied as marine science and medicine, cyber security and psychology. Our success in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 is a further endorsement of that and demonstrates the global impact and influence of research being conducted here in Plymouth, and with our partners across the world.”
