Blackpool and The Fylde College Awarded Second CoVE
The College will form part of an alliance of three northern colleges to be awarded Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status in the field of Construction. Accrington and Rossendale College and Leeds College will also join the alliance. As part of the CoVE, each college will have its own specialism with Blackpool and The Fylde leading the development of Building Services.
The alliance has been awarded £0.75m to spend over a three-year period, which will go a long way in enabling the CoVE to develop its current course offering at Level 3 and above and become a leading educational centre for industry. John Wilcock, acting Head of Construction at Blackpool and The Fylde College comments: “Achieving CoVE status is great news for the College but it will also have a positive knock-on effect for the whole region, particularly in terms of the town’s regeneration. The closer links we can now build with industry will help us to better identify and serve their needs. Our aim eventually is to develop a one-stop-shop concept for all of the industry’s training and recruitment requirements.”
This is the second time the College has been awarded CoVE status. In 2003 the College was recognised as a Centre of Vocational Excellence in Customer Service Quality for Tourism.
