Help those hidden stars sparkle – its nomination time for the 2007 QIA Awards

“Search For A STARHelp those hidden STARs sparkle ““ its nomination time for the 2007 QIA STAR Awards.

The QIA STAR Awards aim to recognise and reward the work of those who have made a real difference in the further education system. Since the awards began in 2002, more than 7,000 people have received these accolades for their outstanding contribution to the quality of teaching and learning that millions of people receive in England every day. The STARs who receive these awards perform a wide variety of roles, from college managers to cleaners, and across a diverse range of settings.

There are 10 categories in this year’s awards, and the deserving winners will be chosen by an independent judging panel. The lucky STARs will receive a cash prize, trophy, certificate and opportunities for personal and professional development, to be presented at a prestigious awards ceremony held in London later this year. For more information on the categories and awards, visit http://starawards.qia.org.uk.

Not only do the awards seek to celebrate the unsung heroes in the further education system, they also aim to raise the profile and morale of the people working in the sector; raise local and national awareness of the sector’s work; identify good practice and raise standards. The Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) use these awards as just one of their many programmes and services aimed at acknowledging and promoting excellence in the further education system.

To be eligible, nominees must work in the further education system, or in an organisation or institution which is at least partly funded by the Learning Skills Council (LSC). Anyone can nominate a STAR, and they can come from any business or workplace in England. So if you feel you are in the presence of an outstanding STAR who deserves to get some sparkling recognition, you can either nominate online at http://staraward.qia.org.uk or email QIA’s Excellence Unit at [email protected] or call them on 0845 225 4523 to request a nomination pack. You have until 30th June 2007 to submit your entrant, so if you want your favourite STAR to shine, get nominating!
