@CommonsEd evidence sessions: MPs question @GavinWilliamson Secretary of State for Education

An Education Select Committe hearing with the Secretary of State for Education Gavin Williamson MP took place today (Wednesday 29th April).

The session with Gavin Williamson, where he confirmed that the anticipated FE Whitepaper is due to be published alongside this Autumn’s spending review, focused on the Department for Education’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gavin Williamson confirmed that, “The FE white paper is an area of the department’s work that I think could be really revolutionary to drive reform in this vital sector.”

The Committee asked about current school closures and the impact on disadvantaged groups, as well as the Government’s strategy for reopening, with additional questions on funding for higher and further education providers.

The hearing was also a chance to question the Secretary of State on wider accountability issues, which could include special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and school funding.
