Southport event kicks off the Supporting Learners autumn series

Unionlearn will be launching a series of regional Supporting Learners events, being held over the autumn, at Southport this October.

The event, run in conjunction with the North West TUC, will be held at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on Wednesday 4th October.

The Southport Supporting Learners event is one of six organised across England in October and November 2017. The events are aimed at an audience of ULRs, union reps, officers and union learning project staff.

The event will be packed with useful information and resources, and include a unionlearn Supporting Learners update focusing on national and regional initiatives and campaigns around workplace learning. The day will also explore developments in unionlearns priority areas of apprenticeships, maths and English skills.

There will be an activity about the new reps training offer from TUC Education, along with sessions on mentoring and the benefits of linking the supporting learner’s agenda with union organising.

There will also be an opportunity for reps to share their own local knowledge and workplace learning experience, along with plenty of time to network.

Lynn Collins, Regional Secretary at the North West TUC, will open the conference and said; “Learning and skills are vital to the economy of the North West, and unions have been at the forefront of promoting high quality apprenticeships, along with sound English and maths in workplaces across the region.”

“The North West has some brilliant examples of workplace learning whether it’s the reading initiatives of MerseyLearn, maths help provided in Blackpool NHS Trust or apprentices being supported at Jaguar Landrover – its unions and their reps that are supporting learners and improving workplace skills.”

“Both Metro Mayors in the region have said they are committed to improving skills. Our conference will hear how they intend to do this, and give us a chance to have a say on behalf of those in work in the North West.”

The Southport event is on Wednesday 4th October, will run from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm and include lunch
