From education to employment

Message for year 11 pupils from Gower College Swansea

I really hope you and your family are coping as well as possible during these incredibly strange and difficult times.

Whatever your circumstances, we all need to offer support and encouragement to one another to get through it. I know that your school is doing a great job in providing you with support, and is dedicated to the future aspirations of each and every one of its pupils.

For yourselves it is of course an even more important time with decisions needed about where to go next in your education and what path to take.

I therefore wanted to write to you to tell you that Gower College Swansea will be here for you to provide advice and guidance, and to support you in starting the next stage of your journey.

We totally understand you may be nervous about the grades you may achieve and whether you will get onto the course of your choice. I promise you that my staff will want to do everything possible to get you on the right course, and will spend the time necessary to both reassure you and to guide you effectively. We will support you through your transition to College, and will make sure you are aware of all of your options.

So we can help you prepare for your next step, it is important you apply to us soon as you are able, if you haven’t already done so. This will allow us to offer you a conditional place on your chosen course and to invite you some course specific webinars.

These opportunities will provide you with further advice and guidance on choosing the right course for you, as well as answering questions you may have about the course you have chosen. If you then want to make any changes to your chosen course(s) we will happily do that for you. I guarantee that there will be a place at the College for you whatever your results or circumstances. There will also be programmes available to help you catch up on areas that you feel you need help or support with, after missing so much face to face teaching over this last year.

After you receive your results, you will then have further discussions with our experienced staff, who can advise you on your choice of course depending on your results. Don’t worry if you need to change your mind in the summer following your results, our aim is to support you in making the right decisions for the future.

Our College is built around being a supportive community that provides opportunities for all. I look forward to seeing you at the College in September and wish you all the best in the next few months and as we start working together on achieving your future aims.

Mark Jones
Principal
