Floristry tutor in bloom after reaching final of national competition
Coleg Cambria (@colegcambria) lecturer Amanda Ellis is a finalist in the Floristry Tutor of the Year category of the British Florist Association (BFA) @The_BFA Industry Awards.
And the college itself was shortlisted for Floristry Training Provider of the Year.
Based at Yale in Wrexham, Amanda – from Ysbyty Ifan, Conwy Valley, says Cambriaās blossoming Floristry qualifications reinforce their standing in the competition.
āItās fantastic to be recognised as an institution and personally, especially after the challenges of the last 18 months,ā said Amanda, who has been with the college for 25 years.
āFloristry has moved from Northop to our new building in Wrexham so itās a fresh start for us. āOur classes are full and there is a lot of interest and demand for skilled people to work in the industry; a lot of the traditional methods such as wiring and taping have been lost so thatās something we focus on.
āWith us the students get experience of working events and weddings, as well as the practical side in the classroom, so they are ready for their careers on completing the course.
āFor that to be viewed so positive externally by the BFA is a huge honour ā Iām absolutely thrilled.ā A spokesperson for the BFA added: āCongratulations to the nominees and best of luck to you all.ā
The prizegiving will be held at the Jurys Inn, Hinckley, Leicestershire, on October 30.
