From education to employment

Success for Cambridge Regional College singing star Ffion

A talented young singer from Cambridge Regional College is proving an internet sensation with her first recording.

Sixteen year-old Art and Design student Ffion Rebecca Lawrence Jones released her debut EP this month ā€“ and saw it reach number two in iTunes’ blues album chart where it stayed for three days.

The album, ā€œLove Away From Homeā€, contains three of her own songs and a cover of Adeleā€™s, one of her favourite artists. Much of her work draws on her love of jazz and blues, with Corinne Bailey Rae and Melody Gardot also among the acts she most admires.

Ffion, who reached the finals of a national singing competition when she was just 13, is signed to Big Help Music, which said her achievement was ā€œa fantastic resultā€ for a 16 year-old artist.

She is already getting strong radio play across the UK, as well as opportunities for live sessions, and is having a launch concert at Slepe Hall in St Ives on 4 March. ā€œLove Away from Homeā€ is also available to buy on iTunes and Amazon.

Ffion, who has been writing her own songs for a year, said she had been shocked to see how high her EP had reached.

You can listen to full-length versions of all the songs from her EP on her YouTube channel
