Lime (@limebike) today announced the expansion of ‘Lime Aid’ to provide teachers and all key workers in London with free unlimited use of its shared e-bike scheme throughout the third national lockdown.

Lime – the world’s leading operator of shared electric bikes and scooters – hopes the initiative will allow teachers still commuting to work to do so in a safe, socially distanced and affordable way.

As part of ‘Lime Aid’, all London-based teachers will be eligible for unlimited free 30 minute e-bike rides across the capital. ‘Lime Aid’ is also live and available for all key workers in Milton Keynes and Salford, where Lime is currently running e-scooter trials.

Lime first launched the initiative in London in October 2020 for NHS and emergency service workers. The announcement saw hundreds of London’s key workers sign up for free unlimited use of Lime’s e-bikes, with key workers in Milton Keynes and Salford also using the scheme to commute safely.

In light of the third national lockdown, Lime has opened this service up to everyone who cannot work from home, aiming to reduce the spread of coronavirus by providing a safe, socially-distanced transport option free of charge. The expanded scheme aims to acknowledge the crucial role played by essential workers, alongside those in the NHS, in the ongoing fight against the pandemic.

Ilona Lartigue, Lime’s Head of Communication in Europe said:

“We’re proud to expand our industry-leading ‘Lime Aid’ scheme as a massive thank you to all teachers in the towns and cities across the UK where we operate. Lime is committed to delivering sustainable, safe, socially-distanced mobility for those playing a central role in our fight against the pandemic.”

‘Lime Aid’ is part of the company’s £1 million investment into its UK services, alongside the ‘Lime Access’ scheme, which offers discounted rides for those on low incomes.

To protect its riders and the wider community, Lime is also investing in COVID-secure protocols, including following Public Health England’s recommendations for disinfection by regularly cleaning e-bikes and scooters when they are not in use.

Lime has run a successful shared e-bike scheme in London for more than 2 years, delivering 2 million zero carbon rides and helping Londoners to avoid more than 500,000 car journeys in the process.
