Supporting the next generation of construction experts
The South East London Mayor’s Construction Academy (MCA) has launched its first prospectus – highlighting the many construction courses and learning pathways available for people to enter and progress in this expanding industry.
Consisting of London South East Colleges, JTL, YouthBuild, Shooters Hill Sixth Form College and Lewisham College, the MCA supports construction skills and employment across the Capital.
The new prospectus highlights the many training options on offer for students and apprentices throughout south east London. It has been designed to provide prospective students, parents, employers and careers advisors a clear view on career planning, the steps that can be taken and the qualifications and experience needed to progress in the industry.
An update on skills needs in the construction and built environment sector is also included in the new publication, highlighting a wide range of construction resources on offer across the region and with our MCA employer partners.
Luke Burton, South East London MCA Manager, said: “With the huge range of excellent courses and skills training programmes available across our MCA Hub, this prospectus will give young people and adults across south east London a clear and concise guide to find the right training at the right level in the construction industry. It also enables current construction professionals to update existing professional skills if necessary.
“Our sector is in huge need of skills right now and many exciting careers are available for people of all ages. We hope that this publication will inform and inspire the next generation of construction experts.”
Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills said: “The MCA is designed to help Londoners access the skills training they need to gain employment in the construction sector. This prospectus will help support learners in South East London find the right course locally to meet their career ambitions.”
The CITB estimates that over 17,000 additional construction workers will be needed across greater London by 2023, with both the infrastructure sector and housing sector expected to exceed the UK average growth.
