Active IQ, the UK’s leading Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation for the physical activity sector, is launching four new qualifications designed to equip fitness professionals with the skills needed to succeed in a fast-evolving industry.

Open for registration from May 2026, the new programmes respond directly to growing demand for specialist knowledge, practical coaching expertise, and clear career progression across the fitness and wellbeing sector.

The new qualifications include:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Coaching
Active IQ’s flagship Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification has been rebranded as the Level 2 Fitness Coach. With operators increasingly using the term Fitness Coach internally, the new title more accurately reflects how employers already describe the role in practice. It Provides a strong foundation for those entering the industry, covering anatomy and physiology, fitness training principles, nutrition, health and safety, and the delivery of safe, effective gym-based sessions. Learners also develop key skills in client consultation, professionalism and customer care.
  • Level 3 Award in Adapting Physical Activity for Antenatal and Postnatal Clients
Equips fitness professionals with the specialist knowledge to safely support clients during and after pregnancy. Covers physiological and psychological changes, safety considerations, contraindications, and the design of tailored, appropriate exercise programmes.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training
Prepares learners to work one-to-one with clients to achieve health and fitness goals. Includes advanced programme design, behaviour change, nutrition, and essential business skills such as sales and marketing to support a successful PT career.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy
Develops the practical skills required to deliver effective sports massage treatments. Covers client assessment, soft tissue dysfunction, treatment planning and massage techniques to support recovery and performance.

Together, these qualifications create a clear and flexible pathway from entry-level fitness coaching through to advanced and specialist roles, supporting learners at every stage of their career.

Lisa Skelton, Head of Business Development at Active IQ, comments: “These new qualifications reflect the changing demands of the fitness and leisure industry. We are providing learners with the specialist skills they need to succeed, whether they are supporting specific client groups, delivering high-quality personal training, or expanding into sports therapy. Our aim is to make career progression straightforward and accessible for all.”

Each qualification is supported by enhanced learning resources, including flexible e-learning and interactive assessment, enabling learners to study at their own pace while gaining practical, industry-relevant skills.

Active IQ continues its commitment to equipping the UK fitness workforce with the knowledge, confidence and expertise to make an immediate impact.
