City College Plymouth Announces Dartmoor Zoological Society as its Charity of the Year
City College Plymouth is proud to announce that Dartmoor Zoological Society has been chosen as the College’s official Charity of the Year for 2025/26. The partnership brings together two organisations committed to education, community impact, and creating meaningful change both locally and beyond.
Formed in 2014, Dartmoor Zoological Society is responsible for the care and welfare of Dartmoor Zoo’s extensive animal collection and leads a broad range of conservation, breeding, and research projects. As a charity that relies entirely on ticket sales, donations, and public support, the Zoo plays a vital role in protecting endangered species and inspiring future generations to care for the natural world.
City College Plymouth’s Chief Executive, Jackie Grubb, said:
“Supporting Dartmoor Zoological Society aligns perfectly with our values of community, learning, and making a difference. At City College Plymouth, we have a proud history of helping charitable organisations, and our students and staff are passionate about contributing to causes that create real and lasting impact. We are delighted to work with the Zoo throughout the coming year to support their exceptional work.”
Dartmoor Zoological Society CEO David Gibson welcomed the collaboration, adding:
“We are absolutely delighted that the students and staff of City College Plymouth chose Dartmoor Zoological Society as their charity of the year. With so many other deserving charities that they could have chosen we are honoured that they chose us. The funds they raise on our behalf will be a tremendous help in delivering the vital conservation work we do here at Dartmoor Zoo, and it is a pleasure to work with such a forward thinking and progressive organisation.”
Throughout the year, the College will launch a series of fundraising and engagement initiatives designed to support the Zoo’s important mission. From student-led projects to a range of College-organised events, the partnership aims to raise vital funds while providing students and staff with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to a cause that resonates with the region.
This new collaboration highlights City College Plymouth’s long-standing commitment to civic responsibility and community support.
