City College Plymouth and Princess Yachts are proud to celebrate the graduation of the third cohort from the ten-week Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Leadership and Management Skills Bootcamp, who graduated at a special event on Wednesday 3 December at the College’s Kings Road campus.

The Skills Bootcamp has played a significant role in equipping Princess Yachts’ employees with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to thrive in their leadership roles and manage their teams effectively. Since September 2024, a total of 28 Princess Yachts’ employees have successfully completed the leadership and management programme, some of whom have since progressed into other roles within the business, supported by the skills they developed through the Skills Bootcamp.

Skills Bootcamps in Leadership and Management are part of the UK Government’s ‘Skills for Life’ offer – flexible, employer-designed training programmes that equip professionals with the practical skills and confidence needed to step into leadership roles or progress within their organisation. Delivered over a focused period of up to 16 weeks, Skills Bootcamps provide high-impact learning tailored to real workplace challenges, ensuring participants gain immediately applicable management capabilities.

During Wednesday’s event, graduates shared their key learnings and the improvement initiatives they have introduced within their teams since beginning the programme, presenting these to their managers and members of the Princess Yachts Board. Showcasing their progress to senior leaders, and receiving their certificates from CEO Will Green, provided a memorable conclusion to their development journey.

Speaking during the event, Will Green said:

“This graduation really reflects what we set out to achieve when we assembled our new management team two years ago at Princess – which is to give everybody the help they need to be the best version of themselves. It has also been fantastic to see participants form strong connections with fellow colleagues from across the business, gaining valuable insight into shared challenges and learning from one another throughout the programme.”

Feedback from the graduating cohort was especially positive, with participants commenting:

“The Skills Bootcamp has been really good. I feel like I have taken something meaningful away from every session.”

“The skills I’m learning through CMI are certainly relevant for when I hope to become a more senior leader within the business.”

“I really have started managing differently with the tips I have learned.”

City College Plymouth’s Chief Executive, Jackie Grubb said:

“This graduation is another wonderful example of our continuing partnership and close working relationship with Princess Yachts. It’s fantastic to see the progress our graduates have made during this CMI Leadership and Management course, and as always we’ve been very impressed with the level of dedication and attention to detail that the employees from Princess Yachts have brought to every session. Their willingness to learn and to analyse their own leadership styles will surely stand them in good stead for the rest of their careers, and allow them to become the very best leaders they can be.”

After completing the Skills Bootcamp, the graduates will continue their development through Princess Yachts’ Internal Leadership Development Programme, which offers a series of one-day leadership and management modules to support ongoing learning.

City College Plymouth and Princess Yachts look forward to delivering further Skills Bootcamps next year, and helping more employees improve their skills and develop their careers throughout 2026.
