From education to employment

Lancashire Colleges Consortium Participate in The Business Case Project

The Lancashire Colleges Consortium recently sponsored an event looking at how to best support local businesses through training as part of The Business Case project.

The all-day event included a workshop run by Gareth Wilson from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) Lancashire on the way in which labour market information and learner data can be used to help plan college provision so that it meets employer needs. Runshaw College continued the theme with a workshop on relating college courses to employers.

In other Lancashire college news, Blackburn College has been chosen as a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE).

LSC Involvement In Project

At the event’s opening, the representatives of the LSC welcomed the progress made here. “We need to be sharing best practice in this new demand-led agenda, and respond by being flexible and engaging with employers,” said Dave Cresswell from the LSC. “We need to be sharing best practice in this new demand-led agenda, and respond by being flexible and engaging with employers.”

Cresswell encouraged colleges to work with employers, emphasizing the need for basic literacy and numeracy skills as well as five good grades at GCSE.

“Events like this help colleges to learn how to build long term relationships with employers and encourage those employers to invest in the training and development of their staff.”

“At the LSC it is our priority to transform the further education sector to meet the needs of employers and the local community,” said Steve Palmer, Director of the LSC in Lancashire. “These new developments will support this agenda by improving the quality of training for learners all over Lancashire.”
