London Borough of Redbridge Education Service Awarded Top Mark for ICT

In recognition of the outstanding quality of training offered by the London Borough of Redbridge education service in its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) programme, the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) has awarded them a grade 1 mark for the provision.

This grade, known as “outstanding”, was rubber stamped by the ALI Chief Executive David Sherlock, and comes at the same time as further successful notices in the area. The Redbridge Institute of Adult Education, located in Gants Hill in Ilford, also notched up a grade 2, or “good”, for its Health, Social Care and Public Services and Visual and Performing Arts and Media programmes. Inspectors were also pleased with the firm’s approach to issues of equality of opportunity, and awarded another grade 2 level for this area.

The Price of Success

The programmes have proven successful; so much so that their recognition has led to one former learner being in a position to choose between two excellent opportunities. Recently divorced learner Yvonne Locke was offered a full time position at Whipps Cross Hospital, and simultaneously was offered a role at Dr. Barnardos.

Other learners found their experiences equally rewarding. Anastasia Paylou described the Diploma in Pre ““ School Practice as “extremely interesting and challenging”. And Clara Bainbridge, a learner on the pottery course said: “I came to the class as a complete beginner and have been smitten by the pottery bug. A wealth of different techniques and things to try have inspired me to go on to do a ceramic design degree next year. I couldn”t have done it without my tutor’s enthusiasm and big smile.”

The Principal, Mr. Michael Briggs, was delighted at the positive feedback from learners, and said: “I am particularly pleased to see the positive remarks made by the students. It is also rewarding for myself and my staff to read the inspector’s conclusions ““ they say that we are very effective in our efforts to widen participation and create effective partnerships. The report also recommends some improvements and I am confident that we will achieve them.”
