learndirect receive additional investment. What does this mean for their learners and staff?

Sky news have reported that learndirect have received an additional investment of £5 Million. According to the Sky News report the additional investment comes after learndirect prepare to potentially reveal a £70 Million loss. Back in September, learndirect received an Ofsted Grade 4, or inadequete Ofsted grade.  It is fair to say it has been a turbulent period for the training provider. 

Team UK win 20 Medals and finish 10th in the medal tables at the Abu Dhabi WorldSkills competition

Team UK has triumphed picking up no less than 20 medals, 1 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze and 13 medallions of excellence at a spectacular closing ceremony in front of 15,000 people and the World’s media at the ad Du Arena. This medal places Team UK 10th in the medal table at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, Team UK finished 7th at the previous WorldSkills in Sao Paulo, but they  brought a much larger squad in Brazil.

Sector Response to 61% decrease in Apprenticeship starts since Levy introduction

The DfE has released their Statistical First Release on the number of Apprenticeship starts from 1st May to 31st July 2017 (which is the first quarter after the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy). Here is a link to the SFR Apprenticeship Starts report. 

Non-Levy Bidding: What did we Learn?

As Hurricane Irma has finally begun to subside, the storm of ESFA non-levy bidding has also dissipated, at least for now. Like the previous non-levy procurement, abandoned earlier in the year, this latest exercise has courted plenty of controversy. There has been widespread concern at the complexity of the process, the determination of contract caps, and the mountain of clarification queries. But is any of this really any surprise? The challenges in commissioning apprenticeships are arguably so inherent that it is probably impossible to design a competition which does justice to the job.
