From education to employment

Learning provider could be named UK’s best employer

Online learning provider, Oxbridge Home Learning, which was only founded three years ago, is in the running to be named the UK’s best employer.

The Birmingham-based company has been shortlisted in the Employer of the Year category at the SME National Business Awards 2018.

Oxbridge Home Learning is a specialist online provider of accredited courses. It works with 15 recognised awarding bodies, offering over 200 courses from GCSEs and A-Levels to professional qualifications for teaching assistants, nursery nurses and bookkeepers.

Matt Jones, the company’s founder and director, said: “To be nominated for any award is fantastic, but to be shortlisted for this national accolade is just amazing, particularly as being a great employer is fundamental to business success.

“I believe we’ve been shortlisted because we value employee wellness, equality and freedom and we were able to demonstrate to judges that employee wellbeing is at the core of our business model.

“For example, we’ve incorporated a number of policies, such as workplace versatility where teams choose how they work, including hours, location and clothing, as well as training where employees can attend specialised events, talks or seminars, or acquire any software needed to perform their jobs efficiently.

“We also adopt a flat management structure to inspire employees to get involved in the business’ success, whether that’s at events, awards or community work.

“To support growth, we appoint people based on criteria that ensures we’re right for them. We’ve also created an employee avatar, utilising questionnaires and surveys to recognise the motivating beliefs, fears and desires of applicants. From this data, we gain the skill to better support individuals.

“It’s these sorts of initiatives that makes Oxbridge Home Learning stand out from other businesses and contributes to our rapid growth over the past few years.”

The SME National Business Awards 2018 will take place at Wembley Stadium on Friday 8th December 2018.
