4 days to go: Global education leaders set to drive urgent transformational change at RewirEd Summit

The countdown is on. Led by Dubai Cares, in partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai and in close coordination with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), the groundbreaking RewirEd Summit will start in four days.

Taking place over three days between 12-14th December during Expo 2020 Dubai’s Knowledge and Learning Week, RewirEd Summit will provide a platform to drive the transformational change that education needs.

The intensive debate, workshops and transformative initiatives that are being revealed, will all focus on three key themes:

  1. Youth Skills and the Future of Work (Day One);
  2. Innovation in Education (Day Two); and
  3. Education Financing (Day Three).

The RewirEd Summit features a stellar line-up of speakers, including Gordon Brown, now the UN’s Special Envoy for Global Education; H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, Chair of the Board of Directors of Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and former President of Tanzania; Patrizio Bianchi, Italian Minister of Education; H.E Shamma bint Suhai bin Faris Al Mazrui, UAE Minister of State for Youth; Mamta Murthi, Vice President, Human Development, World Bank; Bob Moritz, Global Chairman of PwC; Alan Jope, CEO Unilever; and Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares, hosts of the Summit.

Joining these speakers for the much-needed conversation on the future of education are also youth change-makers, teachers and non-governmental organisations from all corners of the world.

Over 100 High Level Panels and break-out sessions will focus on pressing issues, such as:

  • Re-imagining Tertiary Education
  • The power of public/private partnerships to drive educational opportunities
  • Girls’ Education: The Perspective of Islam
  • Education & its crucial role in combating the climate crisis
  • Building forward from COVID-19: financing catch-up education for the world’s most vulnerable children

The RewirEd Declaration on Connectivity for Education: a framework for Action & Investment, developed by UNESCO & Dubai Cares, will also be launched at the Summit, aiming to build consensus and commitments through collective collaboration between key stakeholders, addressing key barriers to connectivity and highlighting the need for an ecosystem for meaningful connectivity that ensures affordability, usability and reliability for learners and communities.

The decisions and recommendations from RewirEd Summit will be presented to the UN and global stakeholders, forming a core part of the future education roadmap.
