Great British Barber Bash brings trending techniques to BSDC
Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) recently hosted a vibrant, modern barbering show delivered by the brilliant Great British Barber Bash team. The session brought an energetic mix of creativity, technical skill and industry insight to the College, giving learners an invaluable opportunity to watch leading barbers in action and gain an up-to-date perspective on current barbering trends.
Run by some of the biggest names in the barbering industry, the Great British Barber Bash team have been presenting high-quality barbering events across the U.K. and beyond since 2014. Their showcases are known for combining education with entertainment, offering a platform for shops, salons and colleges to engage with the latest cutting and styling techniques. Alongside their large-scale shows, they also deliver bespoke training sessions, host barber battles and organise professional competitions, helping to raise standards within the industry and inspire the next generation of barbers.
During the BSDC session, the team of experienced barbering educators demonstrated a series of advanced and contemporary techniques, giving tips, advice and inspiration to Level 2 and Level 3 Hair and Barbering learners. Students and staff—including team members from BSDC’s partner, Lifestyle Barbers—were able to watch multiple on-trend haircut demonstrations and ask questions throughout, gaining clarity on tools, methods and finishing touches. As an added bonus, attendees received an Osmo goody bag packed with products to support their continued practice.
The event marks an exciting moment for BSDC as the College strengthens its partnership with Lifestyle Barbers in Burton. This relationship allows students to develop their skills in a live, commercial barbering salon, enabling them to experience the pace and professionalism of a real working environment. Designed to reflect modern urban hair trends, the College’s curriculum blends technical training with essential knowledge of skin and hair conditions, hygiene standards and best practices in grooming.
BSDC’s broader hairdressing courses also equip learners with the extensive skills required to succeed in the industry. From cutting, styling and blow-drying to setting, long-hair up-dos and colouring, students gain both theoretical understanding and practical experience. This includes hands-on training in the College’s Innovations Salon, placements in local barbershops and salons, and access to employer links and industry patrons.
Laura Hollins, Course Leader for Hairdressing at BSDC, said: “It was fantastic to have the Great British Barber Bash team join us. Their showcase was fun, informative and brimming with skills and techniques for students and staff. With the hairdressing and barbering industries evolving so quickly, it’s essential that we continue to update our skills and stay ahead of emerging trends.”
The College continues to build on these opportunities by providing specialist workshops and guest demonstrations throughout the year, giving learners regular access to leading industry professionals. These enrichment activities help grow students’ confidence, broaden their creative skill sets and prepare them for progression into the fast-paced world of modern barbering and hairdressing.
