From education to employment

Capita joins G-Cloud to move services into the cloud giving colleges more options for supporting students off-site

Capita Further and Higher Education has announced it is now a supplier on the Crown Commercial Service’s (CCS) G-Cloud framework, after meeting all the requirements of the application process.

The announcement means the company can now make its products and services – such as the UNIT-e management information system (MIS) – available in the cloud to the further and higher education sectors. This will make it easier for staff and employers to better support students who are studying off-site, as part of an apprenticeship or work-based learning opportunity.

Karen Reece, head of Capita Further and Higher Education, said: “We are thrilled to be part of the growing G-Cloud framework. In recent years, we have become increasingly conscious of a rise, in both the FE and HE sectors, of institutions that want the option to move away from traditional on premises solutions to receiving services in the cloud.

“Being in the cloud gives students and staff the freedom to access the information they need on any device, whenever they want it, wherever they are – so an employer could add notes on a student’s progress to their college from a tablet device, a tutor could find out whether a young person is arriving to their work placement on time and a student could check their timetable each morning, from wherever they happen to be.”

With G-Cloud, further and higher education institutions can purchase the IT products and services they need from Capita, simply and securely. There is also no need for staff to maintain on-site servers, carry out data backups or manage software upgrades, saving time and freeing them to focus on technology that supports teaching and learning.
