Black Heart Foundation’s ‘Each Day. Every Day’ Crowdfunding Equality Campaign Raises Over £500,000 In Its First Week for young people in FE and HE

Businessman, philanthropist and founder of The Black Heart Foundation, Ric Lewis, has thanked the public after the ‘Each Day. Every Day.’ crowdfunding campaign to raise £1,000,000 for young people across Britain hit the halfway mark just one week after launch.
‘Each Day. Every Day’ was launched on the 8th July 2020 and within its first week, contributions from generous friends, supporters and the public topped £250,000. The Board of The Black Heart Foundation has pledged to match every donation, pound for pound, to take the total raised to £500,000. This campaign to raise at least £1 million will allow The Foundation to double the number of young people from under-resourced and under-represented communities it has helped to date through its Black Heart Scholarship Programme from 100 to 200 scholars.
In addition to numerous members of the public, notable supporters of the campaign include Foundation Trustees, former England rugby captain Matt Dawson and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan. There has also been high-profile support on social media from sports stars Shane Warne and Kevin Pietersen, as well as former England international footballers Jamie Redknapp and John Terry and presenter DJ Spoony.

Ric Lewis said: “I am so grateful for the positive response to our ‘Each Day Every Day’ campaign and what we’ve achieved in just a few short days. I want to thank everyone who has donated so far. Your generosity is testament to how much we all want to “walk the walk” when it comes to tackling inequality and advancing economic empowerment and diversity in our society.
“Our invitation remains wide open to everyone to give whatever they can afford, little or large, to make the change we want in our world. Your money will help us supercharge our efforts so that we can help 100 more young, talented, ambitious people in the UK fulfil their educational dreams. In providing them with a scholarship, we hope to expand their aspiration bubble and change their lives for the better.”
The Black Heart Scholars Programme was created in 2013 and provides gap-funding for young people who would otherwise not be able to achieve their ambitions or potential through Further or Higher Education. To date, The Foundation has provided Scholarships to 100 young people, 85% of whom are from BAME backgrounds, and who have studied at 57 academic institutions in the UK, from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, Bristol and Loughborough through to the commercial flight school at Aer Lingus and The Urdang Academy of performing arts in London.
