Ready, Steady, Learn Name of Game for Students on Catering Course

A star from the celebrity cooking show, “Ready Steady Cook’s” James Martin, along with a group of budding young chefs, were cooking up a storm at The Compass Junior Chefs” Academy (JCA) at Suffolk College on Saturday.

Mr. Martin, who was also one of the contestants on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, was set to prepare a three-course meal with the 12 students, who have successfully completed a 10-week catering course. After sharing some of his culinary knowledge with the young chefs from a selection of schools from the local area including Stoke High School and Chantry High School, he was to hand them their graduation certificates.

This will be the first group of students to complete the JCA, an ongoing programme with Suffolk College. Compass has developed the programme, which runs in various locations up-and-down the country, attracting young talent into the hospitality sector.

The programme provides a platform to educate youngsters about the importance of nutrition and maintaining a healthy balanced diet, and addresses concerns about bringing the next generation into the industry.

Earlier this year at the Springboard Awards for Excellence, JCA picked up the Young People’s Award and the Best Regional Initiative. It was also presented with the Innovation Award at the Charities Aid Foundation.
