From education to employment

The New Face of ILM: Kim Parish

In a move to improve the provision of leadership and management training in the years ahead, the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) has made the high profile appointment of Kim Parish as its new Chief Executive.

Parish, with a background in business development and a former board member at Scottish and Newcastle Retail, will continue the ILM’s efforts to disseminate expert support and advice in management and leadership through its extensive network of centres (of which there are more than 2000 across the nation) and numerous publications.

Parish sees her role as one of expanding and improving the ILM’s image and effectiveness, and has been quick to emphasise that she wishes to ensure that the ILM’s membership is not at all exclusive, but inclusive and flexible. While the ILM is already the leading professional body committed to developing managers and leaders, as well as being the largest awarding body for management and leadership qualifications, Parish sees huge capacity for growth.

“A Great Asset”

Her appointment has been praised within the City & Guilds Group, of which ILM is a member. Chris Humphries, director general of City & Guilds said: “Kim’s track record as an extraordinary businesswomen, Board Director at Scottish & Newcastle combined with her wide experience of business development and training makes her an excellent candidate to lead ILM into the future. She will be a great asset to both ILM and the City & Guilds Group.”

ILM’s excellent website details the features of membership. Additionally, a new range of membership benefits has been recently introduced including: on-line learning tools; questionnaires designed to identify aspects of leadership that members could focus on and a comprehensive on-line resource centre. These aspects of ILM now stand alongside previous components of ILM membership such as the legal help line, career development services (such as CV advice) and subscription to the Edge magazine which is published ten times a year and contains columns, articles and business news.

With the appointment of Kim Parish we should see ILM go from strength to strength and the furthering of its extensive regional network that should heighten its effectiveness.
