BSDC students celebrate success on results day
Students were celebrating at Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) on Thursday 14th August after receiving their results for Level 3 applied, technical and vocational qualifications. Many students receiving their results on the day will now be going onto university, further training or employment.
Burton and South Derbyshire College offers a wide range of programmes, from foundation level to higher education, including T-Levels and apprenticeships. Its full-time Level 3 courses are equivalent to A Levels, earning UCAS points and providing students with a clear pathway to university. Rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted and ranked among the top 10 apprenticeship providers in the UK for success rates, BSDC ensures that graduates are not only skilled but also job-ready and eager to make an impact in their chosen industry.
Amongst those receiving their results on the day was Martha Millington-Pipe, a T-Level Education and Early Years student who has achieved a Distinction on her course and is now progressing to an integrated master’s degree with the goal of becoming a primary school teacher.
Martha commented: “One of the best parts of the course was the practical element; going into placement and learning on the job. I’ve done three different placements, and each one gave me a new perspective on how children develop. I’m now going on to study an Integrated Master’s Degree in Primary Education at the University of Derby. My goal is to become a primary school teacher, work my way up to senior leadership and eventually become a headteacher.”
Meanwhile, Haashim Tanvir achieved a Double Distinction Star and a Distinction on his Level 3 Digital Art course. He is now set to study at one of the UK’s top visual effects universities, with ambitions to become a visual effects artist.
Haashim commented: “I’ve always loved creating. I grew up sketching, and now I get to design characters and film scenes. I’ve worked really hard on my course, and I’m proud; my efforts have paid off. I’ve loved exploring animation and visual effects and learning new things along the way. During the course, I did a placement with a game company where we got to speak with people in the industry, which was really useful and gave me a taste of working to real industry briefs.”
“Now, I’m heading to Escape Studios in London, one of the best visual effects universities in the UK. I’m really excited about what’s next – I can’t wait to keep learning and refining my skills in visual effects. I’d love to become a visual effects artist; it would be a dream to work for a company like Marvel.”
Ryan Halford, Deputy Principal at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “We’re extremely proud of the high achievements of our learners across a wide range of technical and professional qualifications, many of whom are now going forward to university or progressing to higher education courses here at BSDC. We are committed to ensuring that all our learners have an engaging learning experience that will help them achieve their future career goals.”
