From education to employment

Creating Futures for 80 Years [1938 – 2018]

Waltham Forest College celebrates its eighty-year anniversary and continues to provide London with a workforce that closes the skills gap across various industrial and professional sectors.

The College was established in 1938 with an iconic building. The Art Deco references in its structure and the frieze above its portico makes it unique in its community and in London.

During the Second World War, it served as a naval base – HMS Shingle. The College has had a number of names since 1938, including South West Essex Technical College and School of Art.

It has evolved from a Technical College to a top-tier Further Education institution delivering hundreds of courses ranging from pre-entry to level five courses and apprenticeships.

The College welcomes over 4,500 students to its locally listed front facade building, many from across the 31 London boroughs and counties across the UK and now considered one of London’s most successful colleges with success rates amongst the key outcomes for learners that leads to further education and employment.

In its most recent inspection, Ofsted confirmed Waltham Forest College as a Grade 2 college and commented on how “Staff are committed to the College’s refreshed vision and mission, placing the needs of learners and the local community at the heart of the College’s priorities.”

Dr. Joy Kettyle, Principal said: “I want to continue the College’s journey from ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’ to provide benefits for staff and students. Together we will build on the College’s collaborative culture and its focus on the community.”
