Ophthalmic Dispensing students at Bradford College have benefitted from a generous donation of resources from Bayfields Opticians.

The opticians firm, which has branches across the country, has donated more than 100 frames to the College, which is this year celebrating 70 years of delivering ophthalmic courses.

The frames will be used by the students to practise their adjustment and manual skills.

Lecturer in Ophthalmic Dispensing at Bradford College, Maryna Hura, said:

“The team at Bradford College would like to thank Bayfields Opticians for their generous donation of unglazed spectacle frames to their department.

“A variety of at least 100 plastic and metal frames will make a valuable addition to the existing teaching resources and will be used by the student dispensing opticians to practise their manual and practical dispensing skills in preparation for the final qualifying exams. Bradford College staff hope to maintain a great working relationship with the company.”

Clinical development manager at Bayfields Opticians, Diba Choudhury, said:

“At Bayfields Opticians, we try to help the local community and promote a message of eye care. If something comes up, we look to make a difference where we can.

“The main point of the initiative is about furthering eye care so that it is more accessible to more people. For example, last year we visited schools to educate pupils about how eye care can affect learning and development.”

The donation followed an appeal from the College to its local optical committee.
