Yacht maker awarded for Apprenticeship Excellence Print E-mail

Motor yacht maker Princess Yachts has picked up the Apprenticeship Excellence Award, in recognition of its outstanding support and development of apprentices, in the Excellence in Business Training Awards.

"We were delighted to receive this award in recognition of the success, hard-work and dedication of both the staff and apprentices involved in our apprenticeship programme," said Princess Yachts' Diane Ekland.

The Plymouth-based group was established in 1965 and works alongside City College Plymouth on their on their apprenticeship programmes.

Karen Sweeting, at City College Plymouth, commented: "We are elated for Princess Yachts. It is a well deserved award reflecting the high level of support shown to the apprentices, who in return add new skills to the business.

"We are committed to making sure many more people can begin a career in which they can be proud and gain the skills that will make them employable for the rest of their lives."

Princess Yachts was also runner-up in Outstanding Commitment to Training, which went to Terry Harris and Sons, the family building business, for its strong commitment to apprenticeships and highly developed skills in energy efficiency, and Cornwall Care.

The Excellence in Business Training Awards, hosted by Cornwall College Business (CCB), also saw Cornwall County Fire Brigade achieve the Commitment to Staff Development Award and Marbel, the toy distributor, pick up the Graduate Development Award.
