From education to employment

Alumnus Ben hits right note with students

Alumnus Ben Paramore returned to Barnsley College to talk current students through his experiences of performing and teaching music.

Students on the College’s BA (Hons) Popular Music course heard Ben speak about a career journey which has seen him gain a Master’s degree and go on to teach A Level Music Technology.

Ben has also written music for the games industry and performs live all over the country.

The talk was part of the Employability Skills for Musicians module which prepares students for the world of work and highlights further training or qualifications they could undertake.

Student Melody Bradbury said: “Ben’s visit was really informative and interesting to listen to. It opened my mind to the many possibilities, opportunities and paths that I could take one I’ve graduated.”

Fellow student Paula Mckinney added: “Ben’s story explained what path he chose and showed other paths that students can take after university. It really put my mind at ease about graduating.”

The BA (Hons) Popular Music course prepares students for a career in the music industry or progression onto higher level academic study or training. The course provides opportunities to develop a broad range of both practical and academic skills.
