New Ofqual Chief Regulator meets inspiring students at Walsall College
@Ofqual’s new chief regulator has visited @Walsall_College as part of a tour to understand more about how learners benefit from a range of qualifications, study paths and types of assessment.
Dr Jo Saxton who was appointed in September 2021, met T Levels students from year one and two specialising in health (adult care), construction, education and childcare and digital production (computing).
She also met automotive technicians completing electric/hybrid vehicle maintenance and repair training.
Each group talked about the exams, coursework, observations and e-learning methods used to determine their overall grades and qualifications.
Jatinder Sharma OBE, Principal and CEO at Walsall College said:
“As one of the first colleges to welcome Dr Saxton in her new role, we were delighted to share examples of learners engaging with their studies in the classroom, workplace or in a simulated professional environment; with a view to gaining qualifications valued by employers.
“Lecturers and learners talked of some of the teaching and learning challenges overcome during lockdown, as well as their ambitions for higher skills progression.
“Lifelong learning is a key element of the courses developed by colleges like ours and we take pride in demonstrating how our work leads to improved prospects for both individuals and business.”

“I spoke with students who had elected to study T Levels and learned about their experiences and aspirations for the future.”
