UCD Professor Named 2025 Distinguished International Scholar by the Irish Academy of Management
The Irish Academy of Management (IAM) has announced Professor Susi Geiger of UCD College of Business as the 2025 Distinguished International Scholar, marking the first time an Irish academic has received this prestigious honour.
“Integrating an ethics of care into academic research means rethinking how we relate to our research participants, our peers, and society at large,” said Professor Geiger. “It calls for scholarship that is rigorous yet compassionate, analytical yet humane — and for institutions that empower researchers to pursue impact through empathy as well as intellect.”
As one of Ireland’s most influential academic voices, Professor Geiger’s work bridges business, ethics, and social responsibility, exploring how research can foster care, morality, and societal impact. She is widely recognised for her studies on digital and pharmaceutical markets and for her leadership in reimagining the social role of business research.
Professor Geiger is also a member of the World Health Organization’s Technical Advisory Group on Pharmaceutical Pricing Policies and was recently appointed ERC Ambassador for Ireland. She has secured over €10 million in research grants, including a €2 million European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant, making her one of Europe’s most accomplished social scientists.
Her extensive publication record spans more than 80 international peer-reviewed journals and numerous award-winning books, including “Healthcare Activism: Markets, Morals, and the Collective Good” (Oxford University Press, 2021) and the forthcoming “Peak Pharma” (Oxford, 2025).
In her Irish Academy of Management lecture, Professor Geiger will explore how scholars can integrate an ethics of care into their research, offering practical guidance and personal reflections on the importance of moral responsibility in academia. The conversation will also examine academic activism and the crucial role researchers play in addressing societal challenges.
“This recognition not only celebrates Professor Geiger’s remarkable contributions to international scholarship but also underscores Ireland’s growing leadership in ethical, socially engaged research,” said Margaret Heffernan, Chair of the Irish Academy of Management and Associate Professor in HRM at Dublin City University Business School.
Professor Geiger’s lecture is aimed at members of IAM, as well as the wider academic, business, and policy communities.
