Guide for schools and colleges 2022: GCSEs, AS and A levels

Students in England take around 5 million GCSEs, 250,000 AS and 750,000 A levels every year.

This guide explains how we regulate the exam boards that provide GCSEs, AS and A levels, what schools and colleges can expect from exam boards and what exam boards, in turn, expect from schools and colleges.

It explains some of the changes in place to arrangements for GCSE, AS and A levels in 2022 as we return to summer exams.

It does not cover any other qualifications which might be taken alongside, or as alternatives to,GCSEs, AS and A levels. More information on vocational and technical qualifications can be found in ‘Guidance for centres: Awarding VTQs in 2021 and 2022’.
