Barton Peveril Student’s Work Exhibited at Royal Academy

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Abigail Wardell has been selected to exhibit her artwork at the Royal Academy of Art’s Young Artists’ Summer Show. The Barton Peveril student’s work is part of a small group of pieces, selected from over 6,200 submissions, to be displayed at the London gallery between 14^th July and 4^th August alongside work in the annual Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition.

This is the first ever Young Artists’ Summer Exhibition and saw the nation’s students, aged 7-19, encouraged to submit their artwork and take part. The Barton Peveril student’s age category was judged by exhibition curator Bob and Roberta Smith, Artist and Head of Fine Art Processes at the RA Schools Mark Hampson, and two RA Schools students.

Abigail, former pupil at The Romsey School, spoke on her success: “Initially I was in shock and couldn’t believe it. I remember going to the Summer Exhibition last year with College and I was inspired by all the amazing artists and their work. I never thought my work would be there a year on!”

Barton Peveril Subject Leader of Fine Art, Kirsty Ratcliffe, also spoke on her student’s success: “It is exceptional that Abigail’s work has been selected to be exhibited online and within the Royal Academy this summer. Abigail’s artwork challenges diversity and is a fantastic start to her career within the art world. As a department we are incredibly proud – being selected from over 6,200 artworks is a real achievement and one that will stay in our minds for a long time to come!

Abigail has just finished her studies at the College but will be returning in the autumn to begin the University of the Arts London Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, where she will continue to develop her passion for Art.
