BMet IT student lands coveted place on innovative 5G workshop

A BMet (@BMetC) college student has significantly boosted his mobile network knowledge and career opportunities, after being chosen to join an innovative 5G workshop.

Lehel Nagy, who is studying Creative IT at Matthew Boulton College, was one of only six students across the region selected to take part in the enterprising “5G in 5 Days” sessions. It all took place in April, following a rigorous application and interview process.

The aim of the unique project was for participants to develop an in-depth understanding of how 5G technology works, the benefits it brings and to explore the real world improvements it can make to people’s lives.

Lehel is also part of BMet’s Career College, which made the five-day programme more invaluable to him – as the workshop was designed for students to gain real life experiences that employers are seeking and that can enhance careers.

Among other things, Lehel was able to work with industry experts, gain invaluable experience, increase his skills and knowledge and raise his profile in the region through being an ambassador.

As part of the sessions, held at UK’s first 5G Innovation Centre in Birmingham, he learned about key sectors including transport, manufacturing, health and social care.

Speaking of the opportunity, Lehel who is about to study Ethical Hacking and Cybersecurity at Coventry University, said:

“In the five days, I was given the amazing chance to talk to professional people, to gain knowledge about them and the industry as well.

“I really enjoyed trying out the 5G technology, experiencing the insane download speed rate, learning more about the technology itself and what the biggest challenges are now for this technology.”

The five-day programme included multiple visits to 5G enabled locations across the region (including Snow Hill Station and AE Aerospace) to see how 5G is being applied to deliver better productivity and benefits for business and communities.

If that isn’t enough, the winning students also had the chance to feature in and help to create a social media series (including video diaries) to educate the wider community on 5G technology and its potential.
