@CAVC has been awarded the prestigious Quality Standard in Carer Support (QSCS) by the @CarersFed in recognition of the work it does with young carers.

CAVC supports a large number of young carers that come to learn with the College each year, balancing their learning with the responsibility of caring for others. The Federation noted that the College has identified the problems facing young carers, and has put a dedicated Wellbeing Officer in place to work with them.

It also highlighted ongoing work to provide fitness and wellbeing activities to promote engagement both inside and outside of the College. The Carers Federation went to point out that CAVC has also taken extra measures to support learners during lockdown, such as providing meal vouchers to its most disadvantaged and vulnerable learners.

Sharon James, Deputy Principal of Cardiff and Vale College, said: “At CAVC we recognise that many young carers can find themselves in a position where they are neither in education, employment or training. We strongly believe that there should be provision in place to provide them with the opportunities they do richly deserve.

“That is why we are so pleased to be awarded the Carers Federation’s QSCS. We have embedded support for young carers across the College and we continue to work to ensure that all of our learners receive fair and equal treatment and recognition.”
