From education to employment

Glasgow University named UK’s healthiest in new report

A new report from Myprotein (@Myprotein) has named Glasgow University (@UofGlasgow) as the UK’s best institution for health-conscious students.

The sports nutrition brand compared 101 of the UK’s highest rated universities, gathering data across 11 different criteria relating to student health, both on and off campus.

The factors included in the study ranged from on-site facilities and the performance of university sports teams all the way through to the average cost of a gym membership, the amount of public green space and air pollution levels in the surrounding area. This data was then used to give each university a score out of 100.

Glasgow University earned the title of the UK’s healthiest university, with a score of 94.9. Glasgow ranked number one for both Sports Science and Food Science degrees, and also picked up points for gym memberships, with an average monthly cost of just £22.47. Students also have access to a wide array of different health and fitness-related societies, from yoga and self-care to wild swimming and Quidditch.

Loughborough University came in second place, with a score of 86.04 out of 100. With a well-deserved reputation for sporting excellence, Loughborough also ranked number one in the BUCS leaderboard and number four in the UK for Sports Science degrees.

The University of Surrey came in third place, earning a score of 81. The research found that over 71% of adults in Surrey are physically active, with the average gym membership costing less than £19 per month and just 6,481 people for every park or public garden.

King’s College came in fourth place, with a score of 80.18. As well as ranking 2nd in the UK for Food Science degrees, King’s College also holds the number one spot in the Times Higher Education Good Health and Wellbeing UK ranking.

The University of Nottingham ranked fifth, scoring 79.58. However, Nottingham ranked first for sports and activities, with 83 different options on over to students, covering everything from American football and archery to table tennis and taekwondo.
