Coleg Cambria flexing new approach to higher education in Wales
COLEG CAMBRIA has launched a new series of trailblazing flexible higher education courses.
The college is continuing to transform the landscape of further and higher education with the expansion of its HN Flex model – an innovative, bitesize and accessible approach to learning designed for people who want to study around their busy lives.
Following the HNC Flex in Business at Northop – unveiled earlier this year – Cambria University Centre is rolling out a full series of Higher National unit delivery, giving learners even greater choice and flexibility in how they study.
Developed in partnership with Pearson, the HN Flex model allows learners to study selected units at their own pace while receiving expert support from tutors.
The qualifications hold the same academic recognition and employer credibility as traditional Higher Nationals, but with the freedom and accessibility modern learners need.
“HN Flex is a trailblazing step for further and higher education in Wales,” said Emma Hurst, Dean of Access and Higher Education at Cambria University Centre.
“We know that life doesn’t pause for education, and our learners shouldn’t have to choose between personal responsibilities and professional development.
“HN Flex empowers people to study when and where it works for them – with high-quality teaching, recognised qualifications, and real career progression opportunities.”
Among the new qualifications launching in 2026 are HN Flex – Cyber Security Level 4; HN Flex – Innovation and Digital Transformation Level 4; HN Flex – Professional Practice in the Digital Economy, and HN Flex – Programming Level 4.
Courses in Construction and Hospitality Management will also be introduced in the new year.
The programmes build on the principles introduced by the first HN Flex in Business course, which gave learners the option to take bitesize, stackable units that can be built toward a full qualification.
The new courses extend this model into digital and technology disciplines, providing opportunities for learners to retrain, upskill, or take their first step into higher education in a way that fits around work and family commitments.
Learners can study at their own pace, supported by Cambria’s expert staff across its campuses in Wrexham, Deeside and Northop.
Funding support is available for eligible learners through regional Employer Skills programmes.
