Remit apprentices dress down to raise cash for local charities‏

Apprentices at Remit’s Automotive Academy have been helping to raise money for fantastic causes over the past year. ‏

‏The academy, based in the heart of Derby, opened its doors a year ago to apprentices from all over the country who attend for week-long blocks to complete their training. ‏

‏Every Friday it has become a tradition at the academy to have a dress down day, where apprentices and staff are invited to wear their casual clothes rather than the smart shirts and trousers they are expected to wear for the rest of the week. In exchange, they are asked to make a cash donation to the charity tin. ‏

‏Every few months the money is collected together and donated to a worthy charity. ‏

‏Back in March this year, the first collection of £286 was donated to the local Maggie’s Centre; a much needed charity, offering practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families. ‏

‏Since March, Remit’s apprentices have managed to raise a further £350, which has been donated to Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Loughborough. The charity was nominated by Danny Bennett, Remit’s Automotive Curriculum Development Manager. ‏

‏In his spare time, Danny manages the Under 11s football team at Alfreton Town. Through the club he also raised an additional £150 by holding a fund raising day at the club. This was added to Remit’s total, enabling an overall £500 to be handed over to help Rainbows continue to care for children with life limiting conditions and their families.‏

‏Mick Pilling, Automotive Director at Remit Group met with Danny, the Alfreton Town Under 11s, Alison Furlong from Rainbows and their charity mascot Bow Bear, to hand over the two cheques. He added: “It’s a very small gesture from each apprentice on a Friday at the Academy to pop something in the donation tin, but it all adds up and collaboratively it can make a real difference to local charities. ‏

‏“I’m very proud to say we have been able to donate this time to a charity that provides comfort and care to families at this most difficult of times.”‏
