Liverpool Director Scoops Award

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) have named Liverpool Community College’s, Ian Johnston, as the winner of the Further Education College Finance Director of the Year Award.

Mr Johnston held off some strong competition from FE College’s across England, notably runners up, Tony Bell, Director of Finance at City College Manchester and Nirmal Borkhataria, Director of Finance and Resources at Ealing Hammersmith & West London College.

Recognition

The award was devised to recognise the importance of finance directors to the Further Education sector and more specifically the innovative approach taken by Mr Johnston to develop new financial strategies that greatly improved Liverpool Community College’s accounts. The Director was able to implement systems that not only led to greater investment in the college but also help to increase student take-up and the college’s financial rating.

The award ceremony was staged in Birmingham at the Association of Colleges” annual conference. The winner was presented with his award by Richard Healey, the LSC’s Director of Finance and Chair of the judging panel who said: “The standard of entries for the 2005 award has been exceptional; however Ian’s role in enabling the college to raise standards at a time of great financial pressure really stood out.

“Agenda for change and the ongoing transformation of post-16 learning and skills provision means finance directors like Ian are even more crucial to the future of the sector,”Ā continued Mr. Healey, “and Ian has set a great example to others.”Ā
